What is a Pheno-Hunt?

A pheno-hunt is the exploration of different variations of a cannabis strain.

When two plants are bred to create a new strain, the seeds the plant produces will all be a little bit different — just like how kids in a family have similarities, but are each unique.

These are called phenotypes.

If you’ve ever wondered why our Queen Dos and King Dos strains have the same parents, this is it! King Dos and Queen Dos are two separate phenotypes from the cross of Louis XIII x Dosido.

When developing a new strain, cannabis breeders grow many different phenotypes of that strain.

They evaluate each plant’s smell, color, potency, resin production, height, and more before choosing the best one. Because phenotypes are grown from seed and must be cured before evaluating, this process can take many months or even years.

Once the best phenotype has been identified, it’s cloned in order to produce exact copies of it. (Source: Leafly)
